3:00 is the Infinite Hour. It Must Die!

29. July 2008 · Filed under: Jokes · Leave a Comment

Found this thanks to Socialbrowse! Read below or click here and prepare to laugh! ;)

Three o’clock is the worst hour of the workday. Think about it:

9: Coming into the office, I’m jazzed. I log in, check my email, read the news, check a bunch of blogs where people who aren’t as smart as I think I am rant on and on about how Bush stole Ohio and Social Security is going to cause everyone to die at fifty and think that anyone actually cares about Dean v. Rosenberg.

10: Coffee! Go out, walk down the street, get a cup, and by the time I get back, it’s almost 11, which means…

11: Plan for lunch! Get out the menus I’ve got in my desk and fantasize about the food I can have at the many reasonably priced, easily-walkable lunch establishments in downtown San Francisco! After a bit of that, I’m ready for

12: Lunch “hour.” An “hour” gives you fifteen minutes of leeway on either side. The Lunch Choice Of The Day will probably involve Moo Goo Gai Pan or a 2/3 LB Monster Bacon Butter Cheese Human Lard Plus Thickburger, Topped With Whipped Cream and Deep Fried or (if I’m really unlucky), Subway sandwiches that suck so much even that alien cyborg Jared Fogle couldn’t eat them and lost weight. I go to Subway; it’s close.

1: Still at lunch “hour.” Done with eating, spending time at the table at Subway watching all of the really hot advertising chicks who would only talk to me if I threatened their mothers with a garrotte, and only then if they’d get a new handbag out of the deal.

1:20: Back to the office, time to check on the news in case anything happened in the late morning (Hey, Rudy T is quitting the Lakers!). Then it’s food coma. Sit at my desk clicking the mouse every few seconds to shift between programs, trying to make the windows somehow make a pattern as interesting as the screen saver I used to get stoned to back in college when I were supposed to be doing term papers. All that education is getting a workout now!

2: Still food coma. It’s about now that I should probably get some actual “work” done. Nothing like some cover sheet composition and printer paper jams to pass the time.

2:30: Ah, a post-lunch dump with a couple of printouts from ESPN.com. Bliss.

2:45 Oh no.

2:50 Christ, no.

2:55: It’s almost here, shit. Finally, I get off the toilet just in time for… Read more

Dandelion

26. July 2008 · Filed under: Poetry · 1 Comment

I wrote this poem in January and it was featured on my old blog. I thought I would repost it here.

I remember the first time I saw her-
she stood out in the crowd with her delicate golden hair.
How it shined in the sunlight!
I adored watching the light pass through the strands,
glistening as she swayed to and fro.

I loved that dance.

Then one day I noticed her hair was no longer golden, but white.
Had I not noticed the change?
Had time cheated me of relishing in her beauty and scent?
Or had all the long hours
seemed diminished to a few fond memories?

Even though she was now much more fragile and her scent had changed,
she was still my girl.

Until one day as I looked out my window I saw a mere child pluck her up and blow into her luminous hair,
and I watched as it scattered into the breeze and all that was left was her lifeless body,
thrown aside like a weed.
A tear flowed down my cheek as I stood there watching her demise.

Oh, how I had loved her.

But where there is death, there is birth
and now I count the days until I can watch her beautiful children grow.

Be Kind Rewind

25. July 2008 · Filed under: Movies · 1 Comment

I recently saw the movie Be Kind Rewind starring Jack Black, Mos Def, Danny Glover, Mia Farrow, and it even had a cameo by Sigourney Weaver. While this was not a typical Jack Black movie, I loved it!

The movie centers on two guys, Jerry & Mike, who accidentally erase all the movies in the local video store. They begin to redo all the movies in the store, which they call “sweded“. The sweded movies were funny as hell and you can actually watch them here.

Along with watching sweded movies, you can swede any website you want and upload it to the movie’s site as a jpeg format. You can also swede yourself!

What movie would you like sweded? Personally, I would totally love to see The Exorcist sweded!

Melody Gardot

24. July 2008 · Filed under: Music · 5 Comments

Melody Gardot is an up and coming jazz singer who has an amazing voice. Melody was became disabled after a car hit her bicycle when she was 19 and that accident led to her career into music.

Her song Worrisome Heart is absolutely beautiful and reminds you of what great jazz vocal really is. I am totally diggin’ this song right now. Her entire album is a breath fo fresh air for anyone who loves vocal jazz.

You can read more below about her injuries. This excerpt is from Wikipedia:

There are many variables that make performing nearly impossible for the young songstress. Still in her early twenties, Melody Gardot carries a cane and must wear dark glasses. She often has a little black box tied to her waist; called a TENS unit, it is used to alleviate neuralgic pain/muscle pain. She sits on a specialized chair while performing due to pelvic fractures sustained in the accident. Her pelvis remains misaligned, and she also suffers from an autonomic nervous system dysfunction, causing hypersensitivity to noise and sound.

Her ability to overcome her physical limitations and her ability to write and perform despite her pain, makes her an inspiration.

Melody Gardot truly is an inspiration to all of us and her voice sounds so bluesy it’s delicious! I hope to hear more wonderful things from this wonderful artist!

It’s Official: The “New” Last.fm Sucks Ass

21. July 2008 · Filed under: BlahBlahBlog · 12 Comments

Okay, maybe I am getting a bit worked up over the whole new layout thing, but it isn’t just the shitty new layout at Last.fm that is getting my panties in a bunch.

Here are my reasons for not liking the “new” Last.fm:

  • The layout of the whole site isn’t very user friendly. This is a SOCIAL site and the comments are all the way at the bottom of the page. They used to be on the right sidebar. I like being able to read more than the last few comments, but they should have left the comments aka shoutbox on the side panel.
  • I don’t need my new side panel to be so wide.
  • All the white is blinding my eyes. Seriously. They should have at least given us some skins to choose from. Who knows? Maybe that is coming.
  • My playlist had over 600 songs and I liked to listen to them play on shuffle when I was doing something. Now they have cut the limit to 200, which resulted in only the first 200 songs being on my playlist and I lost all the others. Bummer. While I can now have more than one playlist, it has to be at least 45 tracks by 15 different artists to even play it. What if I want a playlist with nothing but Jack Johnson or The Beatles? What if I want a playlist that may have many tracks, but it’s only 14 artists? Do I need to add a single track that I don’t really care about being on my list because I need that extra artist? WTF? Also, instead of one click to add something to your playlist, you have to go through a long drawn out process which is another pain in my ass.
  • I’ve been having problems listening to music through the site. It constantly says buffering and then gives me an “Oops!” error, which I shouldn’t get considering that I AM a subscriber and one of the benefits of that is that I get to have priority on the servers to listen to music. For a whole day I couldn’t play music in the site, which the whole point of listening through the site is to listen to new artists or ones you haven’t heard before. Again, I must say, WTF?
  • Recommendations. Now that pisses me off. I like to recommend music and get them in return. With the old layout, I was able to choose from a dropdown list of who I wanted to send the recommendation to or I could choose all my friends or a group with one click. Now I have to physically type in the user name, which is a pain in the ass because I remember names more than the user names, and I now will have go look up someones user name to type it in correctly to make sure it reaches the correct user. Also, it now gives the option to recommend something to someone through email, but while that may be cool, it smells like Last.fm is using it as a way to get more users to sign up.

While I do have more gripes about Last.fm, I am going to wait it out and see how they improve on this new design and listen to what the users are complaining about. I am hardly the only person to bitch about this new Last.fm.

What do you think about the new Last.fm? Love it? Like it? Hate it? Want the old design back?

Hello Everyone!

19. July 2008 · Filed under: BlahBlahBlog · 1 Comment

Hello my fellow web folk! I started this blog and got rid of my other one because, well, I grew tired of my other one and after neglecting it for a few months, I felt I needed a fresh new start. While I posted a lot of personal stuff on that one, I am not going to be getting too personal on this one (I say this now, but who knows?).

I started the other blog with the intent of posting music I liked, poetry, photos, quotes, etc., and it just got out of control with all the memes I started participating in. It felt like the blog became something it wasn’t intended to be. So now it’s time for a new start and get back to what I want to talk about!

I will be posting stuff randomly, basically when I want or if I feel like it. I don’t want to feel obligated to post every day, multiple times a day. There may be a day here and there where I do that, but it won’t be every single day.

I will be posting LOTS of music that you can listen to, and if you are nice and request, a link to download. I will also post random poetry, videos, quotes, photos, art, and all that good stuff. Feel free to comment on anything you like or dislike, but don’t be a complete ass. I do have the power to delete and I am not afraid to use it!

I hope to hear from everyone about what I post so don’t be a blurker. If you like, you can always subscribe to this blog by email or whatever RSS feed you like. You can also stalk me at any of the places I have listed on the right. I am always an IM or Email away!

;) Here’s to a fresh start and my new blog!
