A Plus D Gets Stanky

21. June 2009 · Filed under: Music · 2 Comments

A Plus DThe badass mashup duo known as A Plus D have come out with a new mashup single called Stanky Whip (GS Boyz vs. Devo) and I’ve gotta say… it fucking ROCKS! I’ve featured A Plus D before on my site in a mixtape found here , but today they get their own post.

A Plus D is short for Adrian & the Mysterious D, a guy & girl DJ duo based out of San Francisco, California. They are best known for their awesome mashups and bootlegs and introducing the mashup culture to America.

Here’s more about A Plus D, according to their website:

When they’re not huddled over a hot PowerBook playing with Ableton Live, or digital crate-digging for the latest bastard pop creations, the duo can be found at various parties, mixing an eclectic blend of pop, electro, indie dance rock, hip-hop, and whatever else moves a dance floor. Quite simply, they know how to bring the party. They have played such events as private parties for the Scissor Sisters, gigs alongside Peaches and Princess Superstar, as well as spinning at events featuring artists from Lady Sovereign to Nina Hagen to The Killers. The duo have also played overseas, with gigs in London, Paris, Berlin, Amsterdam, Munich, and Copenhagen, and most recently Beijing, Hong Kong, and Australia.

I’m a huge fan of mashups and I have to give my thanks to A Plus D for bringing it! Hopefully one day I’ll be able to see them live if they ever come to South Florida (hear that, A Plus D?!) but for now, at least I’ve got the internet to hear their art, because mashups are fucking ART. As Ali G would say, Respek!

I’ve included the song for you to listen to, as well as the music video made by VJ Brewski. If you’d like to download the track, you can right click here and save it. Looking for more? Visit A Plus D’s official site where you can download ALL their mashups. They are phenomenal!

Music + Twitter = Love

23. February 2009 · Filed under: Music, Social Media · 58 Comments

As an avid music lover and prolific Twitter user, I love to share music on my timeline. With the popularity of Twitter growing drastically every day, there are more and more sites that are making sharing music on Twitter easier. I’ve compiled a list of some cool sites to check out. If you don’t see one that you know listed, please leave a link in the comments so I can add it to the list!

Music + Twitter = Love

Last.fm

Okay, this social music site has been around for a while, but if you use Last.fm and Twitter, why not integrate them? You can add your latest tweets to your Last.fm sidebar or you can use Twitterfeed and feed your last played songs into your profile. Just visit Twitterfeed, set up the account, and grab the RSS feed from your Last.fm page and select how often and how many songs you want to feed from your recent activity. Very cool tool!

If you want to add Twitter to your Last.fm profile page, you can see an example on my profile here. Just visit LastTweet.com, enter your username, style, and you are done!

Another cool site for Last.fm and Twitter is LastFMTweetLove. Here you can enter your Twitter and Last.fm information and every time you “love” a song on Last.fm, it will tweet it to your profile.

Blip.fm

Blip.fm works like Twitter, but instead of just tweeting, you are actually “blipping” a song as well. The cool thing about Blip.fm is that you can not only be your own DJ, but you can set up your Twitter account under Blip.fm’s settings tab and whenever you “blip” a song, it will tweet to your profile. Plus, since this is a social service, you can enter a message that will be included with the link to the song. Very sweet! (If you want to “scrobble” your blips to your Last.fm profile, you can set that up under settings as well.) Follow @Blipfm on Twitter for updates to their site.

TinySong.com

The wonderful thing about TinySong.com is that you can enter any song you want to share on Twitter into the search box, which then gives you a list of songs to choose from. Once you’ve found the song you want to share, you select it and it automatically creates a tinyurl of the song link and auto-copies it to your clipboard which you can then tweet and when someone clicks on it, it will play the song on Grooveshark. You don’t need a Grooveshark account to hear the music!

Twisten.fm

Speaking of Grooveshark, they made a cool site where you can log into your Twitter account and listen to music that people are sharing through Twitter. Their tagline sums it up: “Twisten.fm crawls Twitter for tweets about music. Then you listen to them.” Got it? Good.

Tweettj.com

tweettj.com is a pretty kickass site that lets you “discover the music people are tweeting about”. It lists recent tweets with links to the Twitter profiles and songs, and also lists the top music artist being tweeted. You can follow @tweettj on Twitter.

Song.ly

Song.ly is another very cool, yet simple site to share music on Twitter. You can add the URL of an mp3 file or type in a song name and search. On their front page it states:

Sounds cool to me! Follow @Song_ly here on Twitter here.

Twiturm

Twiturm.com is sorta kinda like the ones listed above, but it works differently in the sense that you can actually upload songs that you can’t find on other music databases and then tweet them. Follow @Twiturm on Twitter here.

8tracks.com

Okay, 8tracks.com isn’t really something you just integrate into Twitter, but if you like making and listening to mixtapes, you can make a mix there and tweet the link to your mix on Twitter. People can leave comments in your 8tracks account about your mix and you can follow other DJ’s. You can follow @8tracks on Twitter as well.

Songza.com

Songza.com is a pretty nifty music site that allows you to search for a song or artist. When it pulls the results, you can click on the song you want and it gives you the option to share. Once you hover over “share”, you will see “Twitter This” on the left and when you click it, it pops up a box to add your information in as well as a message and that’s it! Nice and neat! You can also follow @Songza on Twitter.

I hope you enjoyed this list and remember to leave a comment if there are any other sites out there I should add to this list! Share the music and spread the love!

Fab Female R&B/Neo Soul Artists

12. February 2009 · Filed under: Mixtapes, Music · 6 Comments

For this mixtape from 8tracks, I decided to go with 13 different female rhythm & blues/neo soul artists. The women featured Alicia Keys, Amy Winehouse, Corinne Bailey Rae, Erykah Badu, Kate Nash, Mary J. Blige, Groove Theory, Jill Scott, Joss Stone, Whitney Houston, Duffy, Lauryn Hill, & Rihanna.

Some of the tracks are fresh, some of them are oldies but goodies, but all of them are great. ;) Enjoy!

90′s Rock Extravaganza

02. February 2009 · Filed under: Mixtapes, Music · 4 Comments

It’s time for a new mixtape from 8tracks so I’ve decided the theme for this tape is going to be some kick ass rock songs from the 1990′s. I grew up listening to this stuff and I love all of these tracks.

The 90′s represent a lot of things to me and bring back a lot of memories. Now dive it!

My bud Andy is a badass musician. He plays the drums, guitar, & god knows what else, PLUS he just got a ukulele. While he isn’t designing stuff, he is playing in his band or making awesome YouTube videos of himself playing music. Here are a few for your viewing pleasure. If you’d like to find Andy, you can follow him on Twitter or check him out at his site AdditiveDesigns.com. Be sure to check out his kick ass typography!
