Jam Session 2.0

“8 people with 5 instruments from 4 Continents speaking 3 languages for 1 song.” – Cain Masni

That is the simple way to describe Jam Session 2.0.  More difficult than getting everyone on board and doing it? Actually creating a great song that you want to listen to and not have it be just something cool that a few musicians threw together for fun. I can listen to this song and not know that it didn’t come from an album and was completely created online using the everyday communication tools that we all use.

The brainchild of Brian at Cain Mosni, he had this to say about the virtual jam session:

We put together a virtual “jam session” with musicians from all over the world! Music was inspired by Galt MacDermot’s amazing “Coffee Cold”. Handsome Boy Modeling School (Prince Paul and Dan the Automator) flipped that song with J-Live and Roisin Murphy from Moloko and called it “The Truth”.

Now that you know what went into this, check out the video or you can listen to the song below. I’ve also included the lyrics as well as the links for everyone who participated in this musical collaboration. Down To The Wire

Stress is a bitch.I’m one of those people who tend to smile and tell everyone that everything is going to be alright, even if I’m not sure it will be. I love cheering people up and making them laugh. I don’t like to burden others with my own problems because I don’t want people to worry about me. I keep everything that is bothering me all bottled up until I can’t take it anymore and then I let go for a moment, but just a moment. I usually get up, brush myself off, and keep going.

See, it’s not that I’m afraid of expressing myself, since anyone who knows me knows that I frequently speak my mind. Over the past few years, more often than not, I’ve kept my raw emotions about my own life to myself and only shared them with a few people that I trust. Because of this, I feel like I’ve deprived myself of things in my life because I was afraid of letting go. Why? Well, mostly because my harshest critic is myself. I don’t like people to see me weak.

Melody Gardot

24. July 2008 · Filed under: Music · 5 Comments

Melody Gardot is an up and coming jazz singer who has an amazing voice. Melody was became disabled after a car hit her bicycle when she was 19 and that accident led to her career into music.

Her song Worrisome Heart is absolutely beautiful and reminds you of what great jazz vocal really is. I am totally diggin’ this song right now. Her entire album is a breath fo fresh air for anyone who loves vocal jazz.

You can read more below about her injuries. This excerpt is from Wikipedia:

There are many variables that make performing nearly impossible for the young songstress. Still in her early twenties, Melody Gardot carries a cane and must wear dark glasses. She often has a little black box tied to her waist; called a TENS unit, it is used to alleviate neuralgic pain/muscle pain. She sits on a specialized chair while performing due to pelvic fractures sustained in the accident. Her pelvis remains misaligned, and she also suffers from an autonomic nervous system dysfunction, causing hypersensitivity to noise and sound.

Her ability to overcome her physical limitations and her ability to write and perform despite her pain, makes her an inspiration.

Melody Gardot truly is an inspiration to all of us and her voice sounds so bluesy it’s delicious! I hope to hear more wonderful things from this wonderful artist!
