A Plus D Gets Stanky

21. June 2009 · Filed under: Music · 2 Comments

A Plus DThe badass mashup duo known as A Plus D have come out with a new mashup single called Stanky Whip (GS Boyz vs. Devo) and I’ve gotta say… it fucking ROCKS! I’ve featured A Plus D before on my site in a mixtape found here , but today they get their own post.

A Plus D is short for Adrian & the Mysterious D, a guy & girl DJ duo based out of San Francisco, California. They are best known for their awesome mashups and bootlegs and introducing the mashup culture to America.

Here’s more about A Plus D, according to their website:

When they’re not huddled over a hot PowerBook playing with Ableton Live, or digital crate-digging for the latest bastard pop creations, the duo can be found at various parties, mixing an eclectic blend of pop, electro, indie dance rock, hip-hop, and whatever else moves a dance floor. Quite simply, they know how to bring the party. They have played such events as private parties for the Scissor Sisters, gigs alongside Peaches and Princess Superstar, as well as spinning at events featuring artists from Lady Sovereign to Nina Hagen to The Killers. The duo have also played overseas, with gigs in London, Paris, Berlin, Amsterdam, Munich, and Copenhagen, and most recently Beijing, Hong Kong, and Australia.

I’m a huge fan of mashups and I have to give my thanks to A Plus D for bringing it! Hopefully one day I’ll be able to see them live if they ever come to South Florida (hear that, A Plus D?!) but for now, at least I’ve got the internet to hear their art, because mashups are fucking ART. As Ali G would say, Respek!

I’ve included the song for you to listen to, as well as the music video made by VJ Brewski. If you’d like to download the track, you can right click here and save it. Looking for more? Visit A Plus D’s official site where you can download ALL their mashups. They are phenomenal!

Lip Dubbing? Yes!

29. November 2008 · Filed under: Music, Videos · 4 Comments

One thing I love about Vimeo is all the lip dubbing videos that people post. Some aren’t that great, but others are just hilarious! If you don’t know what lip dubbing is, this is what the founder of Vimeo had to say:

Jakob Lodwick, the founder of Vimeo, coined the term “lip dubbing” on December 14, 2006, in a video entitled “Lip Dubbing: Endless Dream“. In the video’s description, he wrote, “I walked around with a song playing in my headphones, and recorded myself singing. When I got home I opened it in iMovie and added an MP3 of the actual song, and synchronized it with my video. Is there a name for this? If not, I suggest ‘lip dubbing’.”

John Mayer

16. September 2008 · Filed under: Music · 4 Comments

In case you haven’t noticed, John Mayer has been on the music scene for quite a while now. Since releasing his first album Room For Squares in 2001, he has shown what a great singer-songwriter he is and has gone on to release Heavier Things in 2003 and Continuum in 2006. While each album in itself is a wonderful gift to any music lover, Continuum shows how much he has grown throughout his career. I truly believe that he is going to be one of the current popular musicians that will be successful for the rest of their lives and remembered long after they are gone.

Another thing to love about John Mayer?

Mayer allows audio taping at most of his live performances, and he also allows for the non-commercial trading of those recordings. He does this to give fans the opportunity to recreate the live experience, and to encourage fan interaction.

It’s refreshing to allow fans to share your music and not focus on money like a lot of musicians. Sure, one could argue that by fans sharing music they are bringing him more fans, which means more money, but I believe that sharing music is a wonderful thing and should be encouraged by any musician who cares more about his art than his bank account.

I could list all the awards he has won, list all the collaborations he has done, etc., but I don’t need to do that. John Mayer’s work stands on it’s own and this fan is looking forward to more. Until then, I’ll keep listening to the beautiful songs he’s already bestowed upon us.

I’ve chosen 3 songs to include here for your listening pleasure. I’ve decided to skip over his first two albums and post two songs from Continuum and a delicious cover song that was not released on an album at all. I hope you enjoy the songs as much as I do. Keep reading after the jump for a special treat!

I’ve included the video for the song, along with two other great songs by him, one called Wordplay and another called Lucky featuring the very pretty and talented Colbie Caillat. Enjoy!
